The Mil Dot reticle is designed so you can range find distances without taking your eye away from sighting through the scope. Read the dots, know the distance, aim accordingly, and take the shot. If you know your trajectory and distance, you can aim exactly right to hit accurately no matter how far or close your shot is.
Here's How It Works: A deer's chest is approximately 18 inches high. That's 5 Mil Dots at 100 yards; 2.5 dots at 200 yards; etc. (see the chart). Just count the dots to know how far the shot is. Once you know the distance, you can aim high or low or right on just the right amount to make the shot!

How to Know Trajectory - For store bought ammo, look it up on the net at the ammo maker's site. For handloaded ammo, use a Chrony Chronograph and Sierra Infinity VI Software.
