Young Berant called up his Uncle Eb (me) to talk
about getting a new rifle for Deer hunting. His Dad was a little surprised when
I called back to be sure this was a "parent approved" inquiry. Kind of a big
expense for Dad and a pretty short notice for me. I looked around to see if we
had a "loaner" I could set him up with. One of our "Shop Guns" is a 97D
chambered for 300 BRM... a 30 caliber version of 6.5mm BRM. I didn't have time
to handload any 300 BRM ammo for him but, I took the rifle out to the range with
a box of Hornady Leverevolution 30-30 Winchester ammo... Which fits and fires in
the 300 BRM chamber. The rifle sighted in to easily shoot 1" groups at 100 yards
with this ammo. And, I delivered the rifle at the family dinner after Berant's
Confirmation Sunday. Oh yeah..., he was happy, alright.
Well, deer season for the Meyers is on their land up in Wisconsin. Berant
was hunting out of a tree stand and over the weekend two different bucks
wandered into his sights. He made carefully aimed shots at each for clean,
one-shot kills... Of course, Dad appreciates having his buck tag filled by Mr.
Sharpshooter Berant! And sure enough, Uncle Eb is pretty proud of him, too! |
